On Wednesday, HBO released a brand-new trailer for the upcoming seventh season of Game of Thrones. It packed an incredible number of scenes into under two minutes, and it's clear that the season, though shorter, is going to be full of unbelievable moments. Here, every moment from the trailer so you can savor it until the show comes back in July. Plus, see the new season posters, released today, here.
Sansa Stark pensively walks through a snowy landscape, as Littlefinger's voice plays in the background: "Don't fight in the North, or the South. Fight every battle, everywhere, always, in your mind." It really sounds like he's trying to get her to fight Bran.
In another snowy area, we see a gate open in what looks like the Wall. If you zoom in really close, could that be Meera Reed tugging Bran Stark on a sled?
Once the gate rises, we see Jon Snow, ice in his hair, approach with a few others behind him:
In King's Landing, crowds are cheering on a procession:
We see a quick shot of Cersei Lannister, and then a hand on a military strategy board:
But it's not Cersei's hand—it's Daenerys Targaryen's, and this certainly means war. (Reminder that in the last trailer, we established Daenerys is at Dragonstone. That's Stannis's old map of the Seven Kingdoms.)
Arya appears, riding a horse on a desolate shore. Note she's carrying her trusty sword Needle, not the one fans think she swiped from Littlefinger.
Jaime Lannister, seen from behind, seems to be wearing battle armor:
Littlefinger, as usual, looks creepily at something from the shadows. Then there's a quick shot of what looks like a sword being sharpened. Perhaps this is a clue that violence is about to hit him?
Once again, we see Dany, walking purposefully but alone. This is presumably on beach of Dragonstone after her ships first finally land in Westeros:
Then, we hear Jon Snow's voiceover: "For centuries, our families fought together against their common enemy, despite their differences, together," he says. "We need to do the same if we're going to survive. Because the enemy is real. It's always been real." As he says this, we see the following:
Another shot of Dany looking intimidated, and seemingly pulling down a curtain. What's the house sigil on that banner?
Her dragons, flying toward Dragonstone, Dany's ancestral territory:
Tyrion Lannister, looking war-weary:
Theon Greyjoy, in darkness:
Grey Worm, in full armor, giving a nod, presumably to start firing weapons:
Brienne and Podrick (finally!), still presumably with the Night's Watch at Castle Black:
A blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of The Hound, seemingly in battle. Perhaps he really did join the Brotherhood:
And several epic battle shots. One at sea:
And one on land. You can see Jaime Lannister and Bronn in the background:
There's a quick shot of crows flying and looking ominous:
Here come the White Walkers, who if it were up to me, would be the ones to take over Westeros at the end. (It's a parable for climate change, guys! Nobody's paying attention to the real threat!) The Night's King gives a cold (literally) stare with his glassy blue eyes:
And here's Bran Stark warging in a wheelchair, though it's unclear where or why. He may be back at Winterfell, or still north of the Wall:
Yes, all that was during a few sentences of voiceover. Onward!
Beric Dondarrion, the head of the Brotherhood Without Banners who keeps dying and coming back to life, is back, and he has a flaming sword. Here for this:
A fleet of House Greyjoy's ships approaches Blackwater Bay in King's Landing:
An army of what looks like the Unsullied, based on Grey Worm's mask, stands at attention. Then they jump into action, breaking through the doors of a castle:
Meanwhile, Daenerys surveys the shoreline:
A soldier on horseback, who might be Bronn or Jaime, rides through a battlefield that has been set ablaze:
Then we see Jaime, also on horseback, riding through the flames:
We then see a split-second explosion, though it's unclear exactly where it's happening:
Lots and lots of battle scenes! Tormund Giantsbane fights something much larger than he is:
A dragon leads an army of what look like the Dothraki into battle:
Theon and Yara look into the light, and it doesn't look good:
A ship is set on fire:
Lannister soldiers prepare to fight (note the lions on their shields!):
Jon Snow leads an army up some treacherous terrain:
Now, Grey Worm and Missandei have a sweet moment. Perhaps they've broken through Grey Worm's intimacy issues?
OK, back to battle. There's a shot of Tyrion looking scared:
A shadowy big guy (The Mountain? The Hound?) taking out a sword:
Jon and Davos having a serious moment:
Some Whitewalker battling:
And more riding through fire. (A song of ice and fire, everyone.)
There's a brief shot of a character, perhaps Theon, dropping to his knees on the beach:
And a super-cool dragon closeup:
After a quick fade to black, we hear Sansa Stark's voiceover. "When the snows fall, and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies. But the pack survives." As she says this, we see several shots that are too tough to discern because of snow, and someone unknown riding off into the white alone. Another fade to black.
Someone, perhaps Jon, surveys a snowy battlefield:
And with that, we're left with more questions than answers. Classic Game of Thrones.
