Our favorite beach boy has been booked and busy. Between shooting Outer Banks season 3 and working on Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of the Scott Westerfeld novel Uglies, Chase Stokes rarely has any free time. Sure, it makes his dog dad responsibilities a bit harder—the actor has a German Shepherd-Golden Retriever mix named Milo—but when he’s not running lines with his co-stars, he’s with his pup.
And when he’s not with Milo (because sometimes even dog dads need a break), Stokes is exploring Charleston, South Carolina, where Outer Banks is currently being filmed. You can find the Maryland native either cruising through town on his bike or sitting at the beach and relaxing—both parts of his self-care routine. The third part of his regimen? Lounging on his patio with a bottle of Tequila Don Julio Primavera in hand. The actor recently teamed up with the brand and became a director of “golden moments” for its campaign, a fitting title considering Stokes is all about celebrating the little things and living in the present. “Because of a schedule like this, where it's just non-stop all the time, any chance you get to self-reflect is very crucial and important,” he tells ELLE.com.
But Stokes feels lucky to be busy. He tells me that without his role in OBX, he wouldn’t have the opportunities he has now. “As beautiful as it's been over the past few years, there's been a lot of highs and lows [with] the show having the success it has,” he reveals. “And it's very hard to take a step back and process it all. I'm somebody who doesn't operate on ego, so barometers of success are things that I try not to pay attention to. I try to stay as pleasant as possible and allow myself to just live moment to moment.”
Which is why Stokes loves being around his friends, another self-proclaimed golden moment of his. And a bottle of Don Julio combined with some music and warm weather makes the best hangouts even better. He doesn’t drink the liquor straight, though (trust me, I checked). The actor's go-to cocktail is the Primavera tequila with a drop of orange juice, and because he’s fancy with his cocktail skills, he never forgets to garnish with an orange slice.
Though Stokes is content with his schedule, he would like a vacation (who wouldn't?). But until then, he’s committed to delivering fans’ expectations for OBX season 3, especially since season 2’s cliffhanger left us all on the edge of our seats. “John B’s dad is alive, these kids are stranded on this deserted island—what are they going to do to get out of it?,” he says. “God knows. But I can definitely say it's gonna be an exciting season.”
