At the 2019 Emmys, first-time nominee Joey King celebrated her work on the Hulu limited series, The Act. The eight-episode project saw King take on the role of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who was convicted of murdering her mother Dee Dee (played in the series by Patricia Arquette) in a high-profile true crime story.
In addition to awards acclaim, the series brought something else to King’s life: her partner and now-husband. Following the series’ release, she was spotted on a potential date with The Act producer Steven Piet. Here’s everything to know about the up-and-coming exec and his love story with King.

King revealed on her Instagram that Piet proposed to her on February 2, 2022. “I never knew happiness could be so powerful that it can take the air from your lungs, overwhelming every part of you that you can’t help but feel your eyes well from the undeniable joy,” she wrote. “I never knew that a persons presence and heart could feel like a real home. I never knew love could be so unquestionably beautiful. I never knew until you. The date was 2/2/22 when you asked me to marry you and made me the luckiest lady alive. I love you more than an Instagram caption could ever do justice. Hanging out with you forever sounds like a real dream, so let’s do it.”
The couple were married in 2023 in an intimate ceremony in Spain.
Piet and King reportedly married on Saturday, September 2, in Spain on the island of Mallorca at La Fortaleza, a fortress built in 1628 on a hill. It was an intimate ceremony of just their closest family and friends, a source told People. The actress posted some stunning shots of her wedding and gown on Instagram a week later, sharing details of the day with Vogue.
“We were looking for something unique and private and that felt grand yet intimate at the same time,” King told Vogue. “We found La Fortaleza in Mallorca, and it feels like the Spanish version of The Great Gatsby. It’s historic without being dated. It felt timeless, the same way we feel about our love for each other.”
She added, “The best part was seeing all our friends who didn’t know each other just melting into one another and instantly connecting. We are surrounded by the best people, and seeing them all together was infectiously joyous.”
A week before news of her marriage, King shared photos of herself enjoying nearby Portugal with Piet.
In the caption she wrote, “Love is cool! Love is grand! Love is kissing in front of the Fonte dos Amores and having too many caipirinhas together.”
The rumors about him and King started in 2019.
In September 2019, King and the co-executive producer were spotted at a Cinespia screening of Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. The pair were seen getting cozy alongside King's two sisters, Hunter and Kelli, and their dates. An onlooker told E! News, "They were very affectionate and were with her two sisters sitting watching the movie together. Joey and Steven cuddled the entire time and looked very happy together. They had snacks and drinks and were laughing with her sisters."
King shared photos from the evening to Instagram, although they conveniently exclude any signs of Piet.
Piet is also a writer-director.
In addition to producing The Act, Piet also directed two key episodes of the drama. He helmed the show's finale, titled, "Free," as well as episode five, "Plan B." King even promoted the fifth episode on Instagram, captioning a production still, "Episode 5 is here, and it’s one of my absolute favorites. @theactonhulu."
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Piet opened up about his experience working with the cast of The Act, including King. He said, "I felt like my job was to step back as much as I could, and just have the camera in the right place and let these amazing actors do what they do best… At times, I was so lost in their performances that I was forgetting to say 'Cut.'"
Piet's other credits include co-writing and directing the 2015 indie Uncle John, which debuted at SXSW Film Festival, and his work on the Syfy series Channel Zero and Nightflyers.

In February, Deadline reported on a first-look deal Piet signed with Universal Content Productions to develop scripted programming. The piece notes Piet's background as a Chicago native and film graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Among the many clips of their delicious looking meals and cocktails, the newly wedded couple enjoyed time swimming and on a boat, sharing a few kisses in their bathing suits.
King revealed they had their legal wedding in Los Angeles and shared photos on Feb. 14, 2024.
King and Piet had more than one wedding celebration, the actress revealed on Valentine’s Day 2024. She posted a series of photos from their legal L.A. ceremony. She wrote, “For Valentine’s Day I thought I’d share this rager of a memory. August 19th 2023. Steven and I legally had to get married in the states before our September wedding in Mallorca. Obviously we wanted it to be a bit of a party. So we got some sickeningly hot outfits, gathered family (my mom made me a bouquet from the dollar store), hit up a place called Same Day Marriage in Los Angeles, and went bowling and partied. Happy Valentines Day you babes!!!”
