Intent on making 2017 your Best Year Ever? We can help with that, thanks to our 2017 Coach of the Month series. For December, a democratizing force in the art world and founder of the online art gallery Tappan, Chelsea Neman Nassib, gives lessons in art buying for the beginner. This week, Nassib introduces pieces by six female artists on the rise.

1

"Friends" by Anna Valdez

I love Anna’s paintings. They’re a mix of traditional still life and Anna’s own cultural influences. She also brings a contemporary approach to the quotidian experience.

2

"Foehn 1" by The Heidies

Kung fu, Shaolin kung fu, B-boying, Dance, Hip-hop dance, Street dance, Jumping, Wushu, Dancer, Kung fu,

The Heidies are a duo who bring together performance and photography. Their pieces are seamlessly executed and are a celebration of movement and form.

"Order of Rules" by Gabrielle Teschner

Column, Architecture, Line, Pedestal, Symmetry, Furniture,
Courtesy of Tappan

Gabrielle is amazing because of her play on perspective. She takes something that feels very concrete with architectural components and reinvents the image with textile. The result is incredibly tactile and bridges sculpture and painting.

4

"Moonlight Creature" by Nevia

Illustration, Art, Modern art, Beige, Paper,
Courtesy of Tappan

Supporting new emerging artists is the driving force behind Tappan. Nevia is new to our roster and her work is very conceptual. She is able to translate metaphysical ideas of time and space into line, color and texture.

"MalaNazar 15" by Ilka Kramer

Property, Room, House, Architecture, Wall, Interior design, Tree, Building, Sea, Window,

Ilka’s work is wonderful because she creates her images using miniatures. She is meticulous about lighting and scale in order to create dynamic worlds and spaces.

"Flowers" by Kelsey Shultis

Painting, Still life, Flower, Still life photography, Plant, Vase, Bouquet, Flower Arranging, Floral design, Flowerpot,

Kelsey is an incredible oil painter and also one of my best friends from art school. Her use of impasto is luscious and I’ve always admired her work.
