Here’s What the Miss Congeniality Cast Looks Like Now
They’ve been pretty busy these last two decades.
Even though Miss Congeniality premiered well over 20 years ago, the iconic film is still one of those movies you gotta watch at least once. The movie, which features a star-studded cast including Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, Candice Bergen, Michael Caine, and William Shatner (we could keep going), has received a permanent spot in the cultural zeitgeist, and for good reason. Between the comedy, the costumes, and the one-liners that we can’t stop quoting over and over again (“You want to hug me...You want to love me...”), Miss Congeniality is one of the most iconic movies of the early aughts.
Even though over two decades have passed since the movie first came out, the film’s actors have gone on to do incredible things since then. From producing movies to starring in television series, here’s what the Miss Congeniality cast is up to now.
Sandra Bullock
Did you know that Sandra Bullock, who played the humorous FBI agent Gracie Hart in the buzzy 2000s movie, not only starred in it but produced it as well? Since then, she’s gone on to appear in a long list of films, including Lake House with Keanu Reeves, Gravity with George Clooney, The Proposal alongside Ryan Reynolds, and Ocean’s 8, where she joined a stacked cast that featured names like Anne Hathaway and Cate Blanchett. She’s also added a bunch of producer credits to her resume—her latest projects include Bird Box and The Lost City.
Benjamin Bratt
Following the release of Miss Congeniality, Benjamin Bratt, who played Eric Matthews, appeared in Catwoman, Love in the Time of Cholera, and several episodes of Modern Family. But did you also know that the San Francisco native also does voice acting? Throughout the years, he‘s voiced characters in movies like Despicable Me and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. His most recent voice acting job was for the Netflix anime series Skull Island.
Michael Caine
The Dark Knight Trilogy, Alfie, Hannah and Her Sisters—Michael Caine has been in an impressive number of movies throughout the years. Following his role as Victor Melling in Miss Congeniality, he acted in Batman Rises, Interstellar, and Now You See Me. Some of his upcoming movies that are yet to be released include Now You See Me 3 and The Great Escaper.
Candice Bergen
Is there anything Candice Bergen can’t do? The funny actress, who also had roles in other buzzy 2000s films, including Sweet Home Alabama and View From the Top, has had a busy last few years. For starters, in 2018, she reprised her role as Murphy Brown in the series of the same name, and, in 2022, appeared in a few episodes of The Conners. In 2022, she acted in the Mayim Bialik-directed As They Made Us, and this year she played a leading role in the star-studded The Book Club: The Next Chapter alongside Diane Keaton and Jane Fonda.
William Shatner
Besides Miss Congeniality, the famous Star Trek actor has also appeared in Boston Legal and has voiced more characters in animated shows and movies than we can count. One of his most recent endeavors is You Can Call Me Bill, a 2023 documentary about his life and career. A few of his upcoming releases include Keeper of the Cup, a comedy directed by Jason Priestley, and a television series titled The Elevator.
Ernie Hudson
Ernie Hudson, who played McDonald in Miss Congeniality, was also one of the lead actors in the original 1984 Ghostbusters film. Since he shared the screen with Bullock, Bratt, and Shatner, the Michigan native has gone on to appear in countless television series, including Psych, Private Practice, Heroes, Grey’s Anatomy, How I Met Your Mother, and Scandal, and had a recurring role in Quantum Leap. Besides TV work, he acted in the Woody Harrelson-led film, Champions and will once again appear as Winston Zeddemore in the 2023 Ghostbusters sequel set to premiere later this year.
Melissa De Sousa
Melissa De Sousa, who took on the role of Karen, aka “New York,” appeared in several television shows after filming Miss Congeniality, like Second Time Around, Castle, Shameless, and Elementary. One of her most recent acting gigs include playing Shelby Taylor in the Peacock original series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters.
