In typical U.S. weddings, brides summon their closest girlfriends to be a part of the bridal party. However, that is not the case when it comes to Meghan Markle's upcoming nuptials, mainly because she's not marrying a "typical" man. On May 19, Markle will be welcomed into the royal family, and the road to her wedding has been anything but traditional.
The Palace has shared details about Meghan and Prince Harry's big day, including the fact that the bride's closest friends will not be her bridesmaids. Instead, Markle will follow the British wedding tradition of using children as her bridesmaids and pageboys.
Kensington Palace released a list of the children who have been chosen for the roles. All of them share a special connection to Meghan and Prince Harry, either as family, the children of friends, or godchildren. Below, the list of girls chosen as bridesmaids.
Princess Charlotte
When it comes to royal weddings, Princess Charlotte is no amateur. The 3-year-old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was a bridesmaid in her aunt Pippa Middleton's wedding and she will be reprising her role for her uncle Prince Harry's upcoming nuptials.
Ivy Mulroney
While Jessica Mulroney, one of Meghan's closest friends, may not be a part of Meghan's bridal party, Mulroney's 4-year-old daughter, Ivy, is getting a starring spot in Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding instead. Ivy is seemingly comfortable in front of the camera, as evidenced by her mother's Instagram account, so a few thousand cameras at the royal event shouldn't be too overwhelming, right? Her brothers Brian and John, both 7, will also serve as page boys.
Remi and Rylan Litt
Back in 2016, Meghan spent Christmas with her best friend, Benita Litt, and shared the photo on her now-defunct Instagram account. Meghan reportedly referred to Litt's daughters as her "fairy goddaughters" so it makes sense that she's including them in her wedding. Remi is 6 and Rylan is 7.
Florence van Cutsem
Florence is the 3-year-old daughter of Alice and Major Nicholas van Cutsem (pictured here) and the goddaughter of Prince Harry. Her cousin, Grace, was a bridesmaid at William and Kate's 2011 wedding and famously covered her ears during the couple's balcony kiss at Buckingham Palace.
Zalie Warren
Zalie is the daughter of Zoe and Jake Warren (pictured here) and another one of Prince Harry's goddaughters. She is just 2 years old, making her the youngest member Meghan and Prince Harry's bridal party.
