- Benny Blanco spoke about his dreams of fatherhood and how Selena Gomez inspires his music in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
- Both Blanco and Gomez have been vocal about their hope to start a family someday.
- The music producer also addressed the speculation that every song he writes is about his fiancée.
Selena Gomez is a muse to her fiancé, Benny Blanco, but he told Harper’s Bazaar that people shouldn’t assume every song he writes is about her. The music producer spoke to the magazine about where he draws inspiration for his work, along with what kind of father he hopes to be someday. Both he and Gomez have been vocal about their dream of starting a family in the future.
“You know, Selena makes it very easy to write songs about ’cause she’s the best,” Blanco said. But not all of his music is about their relationship. “Songs have multiple meanings. Sometimes I’ve written songs and people think it’s about a woman [I’m dating], but it’s really about my relationship with my mother.”
Blanco didn’t share any updates on wedding planning with Gomez, but he did discuss how he’d like to approach parenting. He believes that you should “always let your child explore. Love them unconditionally. Follow the vision and don’t give up, but also teach your kid great foundational tips on how to treat themselves, how to treat women and men, and respect and just love and, you know, all the things.…”
Last fall, Gomez spoke to Vanity Fair about her hope to start a family by the age of 35, with or without a partner. “Before I met my boyfriend, I was single for five years, with the exception of going on a few dates,” she recalled. “And I was like, ‘Okay, if this is the vibe, then what is the most important thing to me? Family.’”
She added that she cannot carry her own children: “I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
Now, Gomez said she is “in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
Gomez and Blanco started dating in 2023; they announced their engagement in December 2024.
