Zendaya skipped the Oscars, and she skipped all the after-parties, too. The actress wasn’t photographed at Vanity Fair’s party or any other event last night. She was off social media as well.

Zendaya did not have any individual nominations at the Academy Awards, but her film Dune: Part Two had a Best Picture nod. Her other project, Challengers, was shut out. In light of those snubs, it’s understandable why the actress would stay in, especially as she is someone who, by her own admission, does not love the spotlight.

“I feel like, often, I am not cut out for [the fame] part of [my work],” she said during a September panel. “I do love my job; I’m so grateful. I love doing the work, I love being on set, I do love moments like this—don’t get me wrong—but I am terrified of that part of it, often.”

Zendaya was last seen filming Euphoria’s third season last week.

Her co-stars Hunter Schafer and Sydney Sweeney stopped at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party, so at the very least, they had Oscars night off.

Zendaya has kept a lower profile lately, skipping all the awards shows but the Golden Globes. Her only major public sightings have been on Euphoria’s third season set.

In January, Zendaya spoke to W magazine about making Dune: Part Two and her training process for Challengers.

“What was so great is I had been training with the boys on Challengers every day and was in the best shape that I had been in a really long time,” she said. “For Dune, the costumes were very heavy and restrictive. The first few weeks, your body’s quite sore. When I was walking through the sand every day, my butt looked great. So that worked out! I was prepared.”

She also spoke about the reason she plays characters on the red carpet, too: “It’s an odd thing to get up in front of people and pose in a crazy outfit. For me, if I create a character, it makes it feel less strange.”

Zendaya has been creating characters since she began acting. “I was a shy kid, and I gained confidence and a sense of self when I started to audition,” she admitted. “I’d create my own little outfits, do my own hair and makeup. Falling into different characters helped me get out of my shell.”
