Zoe Saldaña is attending this year’s Oscars for the first time as a nominee. The actress is nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in the Jacques Audiard-directed movie musical Emilia Pérez.
Naturally, she dressed for the special occasion in a billowy Saint Laurent gown in a burgundy hue with crystal mesh detail at the top. She teamed the look with a pair of sheer opera gloves and a modular Cartier high jewelry necklace that can be worn multiple ways.
The nomination follows a dominant awards season for Saldaña, who has already won Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, BAFTAs, and SAG Awards.
She is attending tonight’s ceremony with her husband, Marco Perego-Saldaña, who has been by her side throughout her awards season run. The couple, who married in 2013, share three children. “My husband will be my date,” she confirmed in a recent appearance on the Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware podcast.
In a September 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Saldaña reflected on the significance of her role in Emilia Pérez. “I am happy that this industry that I’ve been a part of for almost 20 years is getting to see a very fundamental part of me that I felt I never got to showcase,” she said. Emilia Pérez, directed by Jacques Audiard, is the most-nominated project at this year’s Oscars, with 13 nominations.
Saldaña has leaned into elegant, high-fashion moments on the red carpet this season. At the Golden Globes, she opted for a brown sequin Saint Laurent gown, and for the BAFTAs, she stepped out in another striking Saint Laurent look with dramatic off-the-shoulder tulle detailing. It’s worth noting that Saint Laurent Productions and the house’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello co-produced Emilia Pérez.
The star has spoken openly about the impact of the film, dedicating her BAFTA win to her trans nephew and emphasizing its message of “truth and love.” During her SAG Awards acceptance speech, she also highlighted the importance of storytelling that pushes boundaries. “I believe that everybody has the right to be who they are, and Emilia Pérez is about truth and it is about love, and I think that us as actors—now more than ever before—we really have to tell stories that are beautiful and thought-provoking and live within the spectrum of artistic freedom,” Saldaña said.
