Lady Gaga kicked off her Mayhem fashion era at the 2025 Grammys. The singer wore a dramatic black gown to the music awards show and sported straight dark hair to match. Her dress is an elaborate one, complete with lace-up details, puffed Victorian sleeves, and a voluminous ruched skirt. She accessorized with a green pendant necklace from Tiffany & Co. for extra drama.
The superstar has two nominations tonight: Her Bruno Mars collab “Die With a Smile” is up for Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. But she’ll also be dropping something new for fans: She’s expected to premiere a new song off her upcoming album during the ceremony.
Gaga spoke to ELLE for our latest issue about the album: “Mayhem is utter chaos!” She added that the project “just feels good to me. It sounds good. It breaks a lot of rules and has a lot of fun.”
She said of what Mayhem taught her, “The chaos I thought was long gone is fully intact and ready to greet me whenever I’d like. Part of the message of even the first song on the album is that your demons are with you in the beginning and they are with you in the end, and I don’t mean it in a bleak way. Maybe we can make friends sooner with this reality instead of running all the time.”
Her fiancé, Michael Polansky, played a big role in creating the album, too. He spoke to ELLE about watching his partner work. “This album was so much fun to watch her make,” he said. “She recorded it right down the street from our house, so we could easily walk back and forth from the studio. I spent a lot of time with her, bringing my laptop to work while she was there. What surprised me most was how fast she is. I couldn’t believe how quickly a song would take shape. Within five minutes, 80 percent of the song would have come from nothing.”
