Shakira took the stage at the Grammy Awards tonight for the first time since 2007, serving up her signature hip movements with a sensual performance of “Ojos Así,” from her 1998 album Dónde Están los Ladrones?, and the viral hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” from her latest album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. The Colombian star, renowned for her three-decade career, was dressed in two golden, glittering outfits for the highly anticipated occasion.

Shakira’s appearance at the Grammys tonight follows a transformative period in her career. The Grammy winner won her fourth award this evening for Best Latin Pop Album (Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran), a deeply personal project that marked her return to the spotlight after seven years. The album has been praised for its vulnerability and themes of empowerment, with Shakira describing it as “a narrative about healing from heartbreak and finding strength.”

This performance also precedes Shakira’s upcoming Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, set to kick off in Brazil on February 11. The tour, which sold out 18 stadium shows in under two hours, is expected to feature tracks from her latest album alongside some of her iconic hits. In an interview with The Latin Times, Shakira called Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran “A celebration of survival and strength.”

Reflecting on her journey coming back after her music hiatus, Shakira told The New York Times in March 2024, “With every song that I wrote, I was rebuilding myself. It was like putting my bones back together. That’s why I decided to go for this title, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran—“Women No Longer Cry.” Crying itself will always be a mechanism of survival for human beings. It’s an important part of living.”

She continued: “And I feel like women today, we don’t need to be told how we’re supposed to heal, how we’re supposed to lick our wounds. We are the ones who have to move on and preserve our species, preserve the survival of our offspring—of the she-wolves that we are.”
