While Selena Gomez has been a fixture during awards season for her projects Emilia Pérez and Only Murders in the Building, the actress and musician was missing from this evening’s Grammys ceremony, along with her fiancé, producer Benny Blanco. Their absence is very understandable as neither is nominated for any award.
Gomez will be making another red carpet appearance soon, though: She is nominated for Best Song at the Critics Choice Awards next Friday for Emilia Pérez’s “Mi Camino.” Emilia Pérez is also up for Best Picture.
Gomez could have a bigger night at next year’s Grammys. Last month, Blanco teased that he and Gomez are working together on new music.
Gomez recently told Saoirse Ronan for Variety that even as she focuses more on acting, “I’ll always have music in my life because my partner’s a musician, and I love having moments to do it for fun. It can be a little vulnerable when you’re putting yourself out there versus escaping into a character.”
She also contrasted her talents as a musician and an actress during the discussion. “I definitely think my strong suit is probably acting,” she admitted. “But one thing I’m proud of in music is being able to tell a story—my favorite songs are mostly ballads, and they’re very transparent and honest. But I think I might be a little too old for the pop-star life. I’m genuinely so happy to just be in this new era of my life, because in a lot of ways, it’s just the beginning.”
