Why Ethan Slater Didn’t Join Ariana Grande at the 2025 Golden Globes

Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater didn’t walk the red carpet at the 2025 Golden Globes together—and spent the ceremony apart.

Grande was joined by co-star Cynthia Erivo on the carpet:

Inside the ceremony, Slater wasn’t seen either. His decision to skip makes some sense, as he does not have an individual nomination. Grande also lost her category, Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture, which Emilia Pérez’s Zoe Saldaña won.

Slater was still a supportive boyfriend to Grande this weekend though. He was photographed with Grande’s brother, Frankie, at the Palm Springs International Film Awards on Friday. During the show, Grande and Slater were filmed sitting together.

Wicked is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy this year. Grande and Slater’s co-star Jonathan Bailey also skipped the Globes, making Erivo and Grande the film’s primary representation there.

Grande and Slater have been relatively low-key about their relationship. They shared a quick hug at the New York City premiere of the film:

And Grande praised Slater’s character in a September interview with Vanity Fair. She said, “No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about. There is no one on this earth with a better heart.”

Slater had nothing but effusive praise for his partner’s talent as well. This past October, he told GQ, “I’m just really, really proud of Ari and the work she’s done on this [Wicked]. She’s poured herself into it. I’m really proud that I got to be there for that part of it, and I’m really excited to be there for this next step of it when the world gets to see the amazing thing that she did.”

Of her performance, he added, “My unbiased opinion is that she’s one of the best comedians that’s been in a movie in a long time. She’s a genius.”
