Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck in August after two years of marriage, but this week a source told Page Six that the former couple are planning to stay “connected” when their divorce is finalized.
“They have every intention of continuing to be in each other’s lives despite not being romantically involved,” the insider stated. “Ben and Jennifer are still connected and they do communicate when it involves their kids.”
They added that Lopez and Affleck “have a mutual respect for one another,” which is “not something that goes away.”
“Obviously things haven’t been the same, but they have a lot of history,” the source continued, explaining they both have kids in the same school, so “they’re bound to spend time together.”
“Ben and Jennifer remain amicable whenever they do see each other,” the insider explained. “They’re still close with each other’s children, and even though they don’t have a co-parenting type of relationship, they still feel like a blended family in a lot of ways.”
Affleck and Lopez were seen with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner at their kids’ school on Friday, December 13. Garner and Affleck share three children, Violet, Fin, and Samuel. Lopez has two children with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, Emme and Max. Both Fin and Emme appeared in a school play that evening.
In October, a source told People that Lopez was struggling with the decision to divorce, saying that “this has been one of the hardest years for Jennifer...She didn’t want to file for divorce. She just felt like she had no choice. Nothing was gonna change with Ben.”
The insider continued, “She was very upset about it. But true to her positive outlook on life, she’s moving forward with optimism. Instead of feeling like she’s fallen flat on her face, she sees it was meant to be. She’s taking time for herself right now. She knows she lives a privileged life in so many ways. She’s very grateful for all the beautiful memories with Ben, but she’s now focused on creating the best future for herself and her kids.”
