This weekend was the Festival of Remembrance in the U.K., culminating in the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London. It was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales, the latter of whom recently completed chemotherapy treatment. Kate Middleton was wearing a black coat dress for the solemn occasion, with slightly padded shoulders and a black velvet bow neckline.
The Princess had her hair up in a neat chignon and topped with a black button hat featuring a small netted veil and a spray of black fabric flowers. In her ears were a pair of pearl and diamond drop earrings from Collingwood once belonging to the late Princess Diana. On her lapel, she wore the Queen’s Dragoon Guards brooch and the red poppy pin meant to honor fallen British servicemen and women. She was positioned by Duchess Sophie on the balcony outside the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office.
On Saturday, Kate made a public appearance at the Royal Albert Hall for a Festival of Remembrance event, where she was also sporting Diana’s earrings and a Nura pearl necklace from the Monica Vinader. The Princess was dressed in a black wrap dress, sheer black stockings, and a pair of black pumps.
She was joined that night by Prince William, who recently returned from a visit to Cape Town, South Africa, where he was attending the Earthshot Prize. On Nov. 7, the final day of his trip, he shared a candid interview with People about the difficult year.
“It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life,” the Prince of Wales stated. “So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult...But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”
After being asked about the Princess of Wales, William stated she is “doing well.”
When told he looked relaxed by a reporter, the Prince responded, “I couldn’t be less relaxed this year, so it’s very interesting you’re all seeing that...But it’s more a case of just crack on and you’ve got to keep going. I enjoy my work and I enjoy pacing myself and keeping sure that I have got time for my family, too.”
