Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan might have recently endured break-up rumors, but a source revealed to People that they’ve actually been “on and off.”

The rumors first appeared on Instagram gossip account DeuxMoi earlier this month. The Irish actor seemed to respond to them by liking Carpenter’s post on Instagram promoting her album and newest song, “Needless to Say,” and thereby confirming their continued relationship.

The couple were first seen together in December 2023 in Los Angeles and have gradually spent more time in public together, first attending a Grammy Awards afterparty and then posing for a picture as a couple at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

In June, Keoghan starred in Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” music video, playing her love interest. The lyrics seem to reference him, describing an “actor” who should “act like a stand-up guy.”

Carpenter told Variety in early August that Keoghan “loved the song,” adding, “He’s obsessed with the lyrics, and I’m so grateful for that.”

However, Carpenter did suggest that she and Keoghan might be keeping their relationship casual in a June 2024 interview with Rolling Stone. She was asked if she calls Keoghan her “boyfriend,” and she answered, “How do I skirt around this question?”

“The [dating] pool is the pool, and when you meet people that feel authentic and are so brilliant and amazing in every way, that’s what you do,” she continued. “Obviously, I write songs about exactly how I feel, so I guess I can’t be so surprised that people are interested in who and what those songs are about. That’s something that comes with the territory.”
