Bobs and bangs may be all the rage right now—from choppy bangs to the tousled, French-girl bob—but if you’re looking for something that’s versatile and relatively low-maintenance, it’s time to consider the layered bob with bangs haircut.

“I love a layered bob with bangs,” says Kamila Pruszek, co-owner of Blue Tit Salon in London. “They suit all face shapes and hair textures.”

Bangs can be a little high-maintenance, but Pruszek has this excellent hack: “You can just wash your bangs daily to keep them looking fresh, no need to wash your whole head. A quick refresh with your fingers or a light blow-dry is usually enough to keep them in shape,” she tells ELLE.

What is a layered bob with bangs?

As the name suggests, this is essentially a cut that sits above the shoulder, with layers chopped in and accompanying bangs. It can be tailored to your features and preferences; think sideswept or wispy bangs, or a longer lob, if you’re not ready for the commitment.

“The bangs add a bold, stylish edge, and when paired with layers, they give the cut so much movement and shape,” says Valentina Ingrosso, senior creative director at Neil Moodie Studio in Spitalfields. “We’re seeing everything from sleek finishes to bouncy blowouts and lived-in natural textures—it’s super versatile and totally on-trend.”

Both Pruszek and Ingrosso agree that this short haircut with bangs is suitable for all. “There are different ways to cut this hairstyle for it to suit the different textures of hair and face shapes,” says Ingrosso. She cautions that those with thin hair might experience flicked ends as the bob starts to grow out, so do bear that in mind and ask your hairdresser for styling tips that’s tailored to your own hair.

Echoes Pruszek: “It’s a great option for curly, wavy, or straight hair. The bangs can help frame the face and bring attention to your eyes, while the layers add volume and movement.”

How to customize a layered bob with fringe:

  • Thin hair: Go for a more blunt cut with subtle, shallow layers to create the illusion of thickness.
  • Thick hair: Remove some of the bulk from the inside to reduce weight, and add soft layers on top to create movement.
  • Curly hair: Keep the overall shape more blunt, as the curls naturally create texture and volume. Be careful not to add too many layers.
  • Straight hair: Instead of traditional layering, chop into the ends to add texture and prevent the hair from looking too flat.

How to style a layered bob with bangs:

  • Straight hair: A simple blow dry forward helps shape the bob and keeps the ends tucked in for a soft, clean look. It’s quick and helps maintain the cut’s structure.
  • Wavy or curly hair: Twist some sections to enhance the curl pattern—then let it dry and shake it out if you want more volume and movement.
  • Curly or coily hair: Focus on hydrating products, as you might need more moisture.
