At just 25-years-old, Anora star Mikey Madison is the youngest nominee for Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars—and she marked the occasion by making her Oscars red carpet debut in a stunning pink and black Dior gown and a sparkling Tiffany & Co. necklace. To complete the elegant look, the actress wore her hair in an updo that echoed the timeless coiffures of Audrey Hepburn, who also had plenty of iconic Dior moments in her time.
“Generally, Mikey prefers the feel of something polished yet effortless,” celebrity hair stylist Rena Calhoun tells ELLE.com. “She also loves to reference the classic elegance of vintage starlets from the past.” For tonight’s look, Calhoun brainstormed with Madison, and the two opted for a ribboned style that replicated the softness and simplicity of the bow on the actress’s dress.
She began the process by applying Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Hair Primer Leave-In Conditioner to damp hair, focusing on the mid-lengths all the way to the ends. Calhoun brushed through the strands using the Tangle Teezer Ultimate Detangler Brush to ensure that there were no knots for even distribution of the product throughout the hair. After using the Shark FlexFusion’s hair dryer mode to get rid of some of the moisture that was still there, she went in with the Wet or Dry Fusion Brush attachment to fully blow out the hair.
She then re-hydrated the ends with the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil before adding some of Bumble and Bumble’s Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray all over. “When working hair into updos, it’s important for me to create a bit of grit and texture in the hair in order to give me maximum control,” Calhoun said in a press release.
Now that the hair was fully dried and straight, Calhoun could finally construct the updo. She used a tailcomb to perfect the middle part, then twisted the hair up into the bun, all while setting the hair with the Bumble and Bumble Spray de Mode Flexible Hold Hairpray as needed. Once she had gotten the shape just right, Calhoun gave it all one final spritz of hairspray while using the Shark Flex Fusion with the Curl-Defining Diffuser attachment to distribute a little bit of heat—effectively locking everything in for the long night ahead.
